NOT MY PRESIDENT

“The spectacle presents itself simultaneously as all of society, as part of society, and as instrument of unification. As a part of society it is specifically the sector which concentrates all gazing and all consciousness. Due to the very fact that this sector is separate, it is the common ground of the deceived gaze and of false consciousness, and the unification it achieves is nothing but an official language of generalized separation.”

Guy Debord

An evil moon has risen to cast its toxic beauty on the demise of a Republic, once thought to be invincible in its three hundred years of democratic experimental exceptionalism. How did this happen?  OhMyGawd, the shock, the fears, the tears and grief, when the very fabric of the profound and diverse quality of justice and responsible civic freedom we once thought America to be, now lay collapsed on the rubble of its foundation.  Simultaneously  comes the anger and the terrible knowledge, if history is our guide, of the eventual and  inevitable bloody collapse of this infant autocracy when its opportunistic promises are failed and the primitives whose limited lives assumed new opportunities storm the citadel.

Talking heads, pundits, analyzers, and assorted cracked-pots ( especially the religious dominions) are busy picking through the remains of roadkill that is the rotting corpse of the old America. It’s not so much that an ignoramus like Dtrumpf, a dwarf of intellect which makes ole’ Dubya Bush look like a Mensa scholar, has ascended to the most extraordinary position of power in the world, but that millions of decent people, fully cognizant of his  incompetence, profound limitations, and proclivity for authoritarianism, were willing to destroy the nation as a white-lash anger demonstration of the most profound historical implications.  Hannah Arendt’s ‘Banality of Evil’ is blooming once again.

“He is dishonest to the core, an ignorant, vulgar, bigoted megalomaniac.  He is an authoritarian with a taste for revenge, who has nothing but contempt for democracy, the Constitution, and the rule of law – subjects he knows nothing about in any case.  He neither knows nor cares about science.  He will put criminals and crackpots in charge of government agencies. The Supreme Court will be packed with right-wing ideologues who will ensure that all manner of fringe legal theories will become legally enforceable.  Trump’s presidency will make the Bush nightmare look like America’s halcyon days.”

“Russia – aided by an astonishingly unprofessional FBI director James Comey —  succeeded in swaying just enough votes to swing the election. Yesterday the Russian Foreign Ministry actually confirmed that Russia had worked with the Trump campaign to help get him elected.  For months the Trump campaign had vigorously denied this even after it had to fire campaign manager Paul Manafort after his ties with Putin and pro-Putin Ukrainians were discovered.  Russia also officially confirmed that it was indeed behind the hacked Democratic Party servers and the leaking of emails to try to change the talking points by creating controversy about Clinton while suppressing anything negative about Trump.  Imagine if something like that had surfaced regarding Obama or Clinton during their campaigns – the right wing would have gone apoplectic – but now all we hear is crickets.  The Russians have cultivated Trump for years; they know he can be manipulated to allow them to gain the upper hand in whatever areas they wish. Trump is, as the Russian saying goes, Putin’s ‘useful idiot'”  Daily Cos

“Now our country is going to be controlled by these people: Rudy, Newt, Chris, Sarah, Kellyanne, Omarosa, the kids, Melania — Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham, Matt Drudge, Ann Coulter, Jeff Sessions, Corey Lewandowski, Steve Bannon and Brietbart, Hope Hicks, David Bossie, Alex Jones, and don’t forget King Predator and hate-monger, Roger Ailes, Carl Icahn, Roger Stone and all the other hateful, predatory, tax evading cheaters behind him.” Bette Milder

The Society of the Spectacle  has already manifested its Red/White & Blue imprimatur of legitimacy on the new order when 60 Minutes presented the  Trump First Family as normalized, ‘nice’ people ready to unite and care for all Americans. It was not a masterpiece of performance because the actors, in spite of great wealth and celebrity status, are as shallow as Kardashian talent. In other words rich white trash, attempting sincerity and masquerading as representatives of all Americans. It was a queasy, nauseating affair with Leslie Stahl giving her most polished fair and balanced interview with our new gold-leafed Adams Family.

Baron was noticeably absent, no doubt because rolling his eyes at Big Daddy’s election speech was an unfortunate business for the thin skinned Trump. One wonders if in spite of the boy’s being family, Kellyanne Conway, the Barbie Durga, of the resentment payback list has him down for consideration. Or, will poor Baron be placed in the Tiffany Trump category: ‘what’s her name’ list.

Sons Uday and Qusay Trump, smiling big game hunters and killers of magnificent wild life with elephant tail trophies to prove it comported themselves in suited respectability mansplaining how Big Daddy would be a unifier and not to be afraid. I can’t help but recall a long ago quote by a minor Nazi official who opined, ” Some of my best friends were Jews.”

Then the beautiful new First lady Melania Trump rattled off her intention to advocate for bullying prevention etc and so on…….clearly an invention of Ivanka Trump, whose intelligent penchant for irony and elitist snark seem unlimited. Poor Melania has been the subject of much slut shaming and I confess to have been one of those terrible libtard losers, who think First Ladies should be Jacquie Kennedy or Michelle Obama. I apologize Melania.

amMy latest feelings about the new First Lady have evolved into compassion. What a contract that soul has signed up for. I suspect that this woman, so-called super model, was basically a scrambling country girl from East Europe making a living as best she could doing soft porn and only two paychecks away from pole dancing when she hit the trifecta. I imagine she thought it would be glorious gowns, jewelry, and penthouses, closing her eyes as the predictable evening assaults consummated her marriage with her mind out-of-body fantasizing about the next Bulgari babble to complement her new Dior and compensate for her gold plated hell.

Big Daddy himself, Der Gropenfuhrer, was preternaturally dignified, at least for the first thirty minutes as his presidential gravitas shown thin as a piece of typing paper with a Smiley Face on it, or more accurately a line of Tweet, declaring ‘Unfair.’

Trump will be a figure head  President given to Oval Office posturing, signing ‘stuff’ and basking in as many public appearances as possible. In the meantime the glorious business of dismantling the old Democratic Republic will go to his strategic advisor, anti-Semite and white nationalist, Steve Bannon   and Vice President Mike Pence, who has vowed to undo and destroy GLTBQ established legal rights and protections, defund and/or eliminate Planned Parenthood, overturn Roe vs Wade, and other pro humanity rights that offend the radical Levitican cults of the Alt Right Christian Dominionist believers.

       THE SECOND COMING

    Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?

Yeats

Yes indeed some rough beast slouches toward Bethlehem. It’s name is Trumpism

    That sums it all up for me. Thank you for writing it down and putting it all together like this. I await the nightmare to begin.

      We must build close knit communities, support each other, celebrate life and bring our light into the darkness settling over our nation and by all means RESIST! xxxooo Michael & Andie

    Explosively brilliant post. Your sharp barns are warranted. I fear we are in for a helluva ride. I hear all the pleas to resist – I call them out myself – but in practical terms I don’t really know what I can do. Is calling ones representative in these times useful and effective? I am going to the January Women’s march in DC. It’s what I can do.

    …at 82, will miss the best of the worst to come; yet hope remains that our children and grandchildren will learn this lesson well enough to form a new beginning….Larry

    Brilliant and fiery piece ( I would say “Tell us how you REALLY feel, Michael??!!). Stirs me up. I don;t know what to do either except what appears in front of me. And march on Jan. 21st. Somewhere.Thanks for your intellect and perspective and amazing writing.
